Stour Vale trustee joins the board of Midland Metro Limited as a Non-Executive Director 

We are delighted to announce that Richard Brooks, Vice Chair of the Trust Board, has recently been appointed to the board of tram operator Midland Metro Limited (MML) as a Non-Executive Director.

Delight as Newtown Primary School receives ‘good’ rating by inspectors 

 

Since becoming part of Stour Vale Multi Academy Trust in April 2020 and implementing a new senior leadership team, Newtown Primary School has been on a long journey of school improvement.

Mrs Chesney-Ly, the school’s Headteacher, has said: “We have worked exceptionally hard with the support of the trust, to create a learning environment that is safe and welcoming for all children. This has also included the development of a new curriculum and assessment process that is able to offer an ambitious and tailored curriculum for all children.”

Acting Headteacher Mr Clayton is also delighted with the outcome and said: “Newtown Primary School is a special place and I thank everyone who has worked so hard in making the school a success.”

Minister for Schools congratulates Olive Hill Primary School 

 

Congratulations to Olive Hill Primary School on its achievement in the 2023 multiplication tables check. Its average pupil score places it among the top 200 performing schools in England for the check. Recognising this success in a letter to the Headteacher, Ms Grasby, the Minister for Schools congratulated pupils on their ‘hard work’ and ‘excellent achievement’ and school staff on their ‘leadership in continuing to promote the important subject of mathematics’.

England Legacy Masters Championship and Para Powerlifting Open

 

On 17 and 18 June 2023 Oldbury Academy proudly hosted the England Legacy Masters Championship and the Para Powerlifting Open, in a celebration of the enduring legacy of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Oldbury Academy Olympic Weightlifting Club was chosen to receive items of equipment used by elite athletes during the Games as part of the ‘kit giveaway’ intended to give local communities and school children access to equipment to teach them how to develop strength, build resilience and overcome personal challenges.

The weekend of sporting excellence was followed by a visit to the school by the Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, as part of his one-year Commonwealth Games anniversary tour of the region to see its legacy in action.

 

Baroness Barran MBE visits Oldbury Academy

On 10 February 2023 Baroness Barran MBE, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Education, visited Oldbury Academy to meet pupils and staff and learn more about the school’s improvement journey to date.

Oldbury Academy Headteacher raises funds for PAPYRUS

Oldbury Academy Headteacher, Phil Shackleton, is embarking on a year-long fundraising campaign to raise funds and awareness to help prevent suicide in young people. He has collaborated with the national charity PAPYRUS ‘Prevention of Young Suicide’ and will be completing a number of physical challenges across the academic year.
